Worried about pins falling off & getting lost?  Read on to notice one of the primary reasons why this happens and like shooting fish in a barrel steps y'all can have to foreclose it!

Wondering where that pin goes?  We have a whole department for that!

Step 1: Have upwards the extra infinite

A pin back poking up through the fabric of a vest and a small piece of craft foam.

"Tie Tack" type pins are meant to go through many layers of fabric, non just one.  As girls run and jump, the vest cloth bangs into the squeeze, slowly working it off.
To fix this, get-go by putting the pivot where information technology belongs.  Now add a small piece of craft foam or felt earlier you put on the clasp.  That helps keep the vest from banging into the pivot dorsum and it helps keep the pivot correct way up.  Win-win!

Step 2: Pick i of these 3 methods to secure that pin

Mucilage

(ane) Put the pivot in the correct place but don't put the back on yet.
(two) Put a modest amount of silicone glue or hot glue on the pin's postal service.
(3) Put the back on.
The glue will help hold the back on simply the back can still be easily pulled off if you lot need to move the pin.  Be aware, if you use likewise much glue, you may stain her vest.  Also, practise not use permanent glues similar super glues or jewelry glues.  You will not exist able to accept the pin off.

(Note: In that location are many brands of these type of glues.  We don't recommend any one brand over another – employ the one you similar best.)

SEWING – aye… SEWING on a pin

A pin laying face down so the post is sticking straight up. A piece of felt slightly smaller than the pin face has been pushed down over the post so it is flush against the back of the pin.(one)  Utilise permanent glue to glue a small piece of felt to the back of the pin.
(2) Put the pivot in the correct place and add the pin back.
(three) Use needle and thread to run up through the vest, communicable the felt on the back of the pin.
(four) Take a few stitches through the pin dorsum as well so it can't fall off.

You can as well sew the pin directly on to the vest.
(1) Run at least two stitches over the front of the pin.
Note: Use thread that matches the pivot or use invisible thread for the all-time finished appearance.
(ii) Don't forget to take a few stitches through the pin back also so it can't autumn off.

As a bonus, sewing on the pins helps keep the pin the right fashion up!

Dissimilar Pivot BACKS

Did you know the standard pivot dorsum or "clasp" has a nickname?  Information technology'south also known as a "frog".  Perchance because it likes to jump off the dorsum of the pin!

Another way to preclude pins from getting lost is to switch to dissimilar pin backs.  There are several choices available.

Rubber pin backs are lightweight and work well for many people.  They come up in a variety of colors and shapes.  The quality can also vary then be sure to buy some with expert reviews.

At that place are ii types of "Locking" pin backs.

Barrel backs have a small "set screw" in the side.  They come with a tiny allen wrench to tighten the screw firmly against the mail service of the pin.  They work well but y'all need to be certain to non over-tighten (and pause the postal service) and you need to make sure you don't lose the wrench.

Tool-less backs have a "plunger" action.  You lot pull up on the back edge as you push the pin back down over the post.  Once in place, you release the "plunger" to secure the pin back.

One last tip!  Sometimes you lot will need to remove pins and getting them back in the right spot can be tricky.  One time you accept a pin placed just right, take a moment to marking where it goes.  Plough the vest over and apply a ballpoint pivot or a sharpie to mark around the postal service.
